Pierre Bonnard: Early and Late
Published in Paperback by Phillips Collections (July, 2002)
Authors: Elizabeth Hutton Turner, Pierre Bonnard, and Nancy Wolsk
Average review score:

Good Book on an Underrated Painter
"Early and Late" is the book that accompanied the Phillips Collection's 2002 exhibit on Bonnard's early and late works. The exhibitition was beautiful. The book, of course, doesn't do justice to the colors in the originals, but the book's prints, particularly the details, are very good.

The book includes a chronology of Bonnnard's life, three excellent essays, and some notes from Bonnard's journals. One essay discusses Bonnard's innovations, especially early on and especially his use of photography as a way to prepare for his paintings. Another essay shows how Bonnard's paintings were influenced by his reformed education. A final essay demonstrates Bonnard's debt to Japanese art.

Bonnard's longevity, I think, has kept him from having more of a reputation as an innovator. A quick overview of Bonnard's work shows that he was still painting postimpressionism toward the middle of the 20th Century. His use of different points of view and contrasting colors, and the subservience of the object to the idea make him more than a late impressionist. Basically, I like this guy's work, and this book helped me answer my question, "What is it about this man's painting that I like?"

Plant Technology of First Peoples in British Columbia (Royal British Columbia Museum Handbook)
Published in Paperback by Univ of British Columbia (March, 1999)
Author: Nancy J. Turner
Average review score:

Ethnobotany gem
Nancy Turner's book on plant uses by the First Peoples of British Columbia is a treasure house of ancient knowledge: how the plants of the Pacific Northwest were used by the original inhabitants. In an aboriginal technology, plants were used in almost every aspect of life: housing, clothing, transportation, weapons, fishing lines, basketry--all depended on skillful manipulation of plant materials. Organized by plant group, each plant's uses are discussed. The book will appeal to craft workers as much as anthropologists and other students of native woods lore because the methods of preparation are included.

Some Great Short Stories
I read a lot of these when they first came out, but it was nice to have them all together in one book. Plus there were a couple I missed. I also recommend the AREA 51 series and THE ROCK by Robert Doherty if you're looking for some fun, current sci-fi novels.

This book is a food for thought when we are in pain
This is a must read for anybody under going any kind of pain and suffering. It is very important to believe in something strongly either God or medical treatment and firmly stick to it. It is amazing how Africian Americans strongly beleived in God , despite the dreadfully life in American. It thought me that God in its infinite goodness is inexhaustaible when it comes to his grace for his children. By reading this book you will learn the other aspites of life that is so enriching despite lack of material wealth but just with faith in Christ. There are many lessions to learn for everybody from this book either from the power of Jesus or from practical faith on something.

Preface : Social Process and Cultural Theory
Published in Hardcover by Sage Publications (April, 1991)
Authors: Mike Hepworth, Bryan S Turner, and Mike Featherstone
Average review score:

Solid start to understanding a Hot Topic
It's in vogue for social scientists to declare they are interested in the body. This collection of theoretical articles offers a solid foundation for people who make such declarations to know what they are talking about. Yes, there's life after Foucault. Micro-politics and the realities of sensual experience offer scientists a way of not outdating themselves.

Principles of Superconductive Devices and Circuits
Published in Hardcover by Pearson Education POD (07 December, 1998)
Authors: Theodore Van Duzer and Charles W. Turner
Average review score:

Excellent textbook on superconducting electronics
This book starts from the basic physics of superconductivity and deals with superconducting devices, such as SQUIDs, SIS mixers and Single Flux Quantum devices. The treatments of each device are based on the current research, so that readers easily get the front of the fields. It also includes a prenty of important papers as the references and thus you can easily get into the deep level. I found one disadvantage that there is no statements on single electron/Cooper pair tunneling phenomena. I recommend this book for the persons to study superconducting electronics from students to the experts in this field. This book is valuable even for the persons who read the first editon because each treatments are updated.

The Queen of Ashes
Published in Paperback by Ace Books (June, 1995)
Author: Deborah Turner Harris
Average review score:

Wonderful alternative Scotland and how it could be!
'The Queen of Ashes' was a wonderfully compelling read! I didn't put the book down until I finished it!!! I didn't know this was the second book in the series, and for some reason, I always seem to end up starting in the middle of a series. However, if you haven't read the first book, the second still is contained enough in itself to be comprehensive and wonderful. I absolutely loved this tale of a Scotland that could have been. I'm of Scottish descent, and I appreciate the beautiful weaving of the elements that characterized so much of Scotland then, the deep rooted superstitions and the coming of the new religion. Actually, my favorite character is Lord Charion, I always seem to love enigmatic, quirky characters. The way that different points of view are used are very well done, and I cannot wait to read the first book as well as all that follows! Thank you for an enjoyable, wonderfully transporting read!
